UVC light destroys the molecular structure of viruses and bacteria present in the air. However, this process requires that the air is exposed to UVC light for a certain period of time. In practice, this is difficult to achieve by installing UVC light sources directly in air handling units.
This is because the ambient air, which is transported to the air handling unit, passes through the unit in a very short time.
As an example: for a 20m2 room (5 x 4 m) served by 800 m3/hour of treated air, the duration of passage of an air molecule within the air treatment unit is less than 0.5 seconds.
The Barrisol® purification system allows us to remedy this problem by installing UVC light sources directly in a plenum between the natural slab of the room and a Barrisol Biosourced® sheet. Via this configuration, the treated air is injected in the plenum and exposed to the UVC radiations during all its journey inside this last one. A blowing slot is created between the Barrisol sheet and the wall of the room located opposite the treated air injection channel in the plenum.
Using the same example of a 20 m2 room served by 800m3/hour of treated air, the minimum duration of exposure to UVC radiation of an air molecule before exit through the air slot is 24 seconds. This is almost 50 times longer than the exposure time in an air handling unit. The air is thus exposed to radiation for a sufficiently long period of time, benefiting from germicidal properties to be rid of its entire viral and bacteriological load.
In addition to air purification, this device can advantageously be equipped with a second light source placed alternately with the UVC source so as to ensure the backlighting of the Barrisol Biosourcée® ceiling on its entire surface and in a homogeneous way.
Moreover, this device can also be used for the diffusion of air-conditioned air towards the served room. Finally, the Barrisol sheet can be micro-perforated in order to ensure the acoustic correction of the room.
One of the most effective ways to sterilise the air in a room today is to expose the air to UVC light.
With its unique and patented open shape, the Barrisol® Clim® can transfer air either by blowing (a) or by suction (b) between the plenum space and the rest of the room. The solid version (c) of the unit allows you to prevent air passing through certain walls.
